The outgoing resident Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to the Republic of Seychelles. H.E. Mrs. Martha Hernandez Caneiro paid a farewell call on the Minister for Foreign Affairs and the Diaspora, Mr. Barry Faure at Maison Quéau de Quinssy on 25 November 2025.
During the meeting, the two diplomats touched on the cooperation between Seychelles and Cuba, with the main focus being on cooperation in the field of health. Ambassador Caneiro thanked the Seychelles government for facilitating the recent signing of the updated health agreement which aims at strengthening the capacity of the Ministry of Health through the provision of general practitioners and specialists at the Seychelles Hospital and at community level.
Ambassador Caneiro also expressed her hopes for her successor to continue pursuing collaboration in the field of culture, noting that the recent boxing event between Seychellois, Cuban and Russian boxers was a success and would like to see more of these types of people to people exchanges in the future.
Minister Faure thanked Ambassador Caneiro for her commitment to enhancing the ties between Seychelles and Cuba during her four-year tenure, noting that in regard to health, the presence of Cuban doctors has been felt and deeply appreciated by the people of Seychelles.
Exchanges in the field of health and diplomacy, as well as the possibility of increasing the number of high-level visits between the two countries was also discussed during the meeting.
