The 27 districts of Seychelles

From the reclaimed islands off Victoria to the Aldabra atoll a thousand kilometres south, the districts are the map of home.

ANSER · THE SHORT VERSION

Seychelles is divided into 27 administrative districts: 22 on Mahé and its surrounding islands including Greater Victoria, plus Praslin's two, La Digue and the Inner Islands, and the Outer Islands. Each district runs a District Administration under the Ministry of Local Government.

GREATER VICTORIA
ENGLISH RIVER

The northern edge of the capital, reaching to Île du Port and the National Assembly.

MONT FLEURI

Victoria's south, home to the Botanical Gardens and the national hospital.

MONT BUXTON

The inland hillside above central Victoria.

SAINT LOUIS

The western hills of the capital.

BEL AIR

Victoria, with the historic Bel Air cemetery and its giants' graves.

LES MAMELLES

Just south of the capital, below its three-peaked hill.

ROCHE CAIMAN

Reclaimed land holding the national stadium and a wetland bird reserve.

PLAISANCE

A residential district on Victoria's southern side.

ÎLE PERSEVERANCE

The reclaimed island north of Victoria, the newest districts (I and II).

NORTH AND WEST MAHÉ
GLACIS

The scenic northern tip of Mahé.

BEAU VALLON

Mahé's most famous beach and its main resort bay.

BEL OMBRE

The northwest coast, near Beau Vallon, with treasure legends of its own.

PORT GLAUD

The west coast, Port Launay marine park and the Sauzier waterfall.

GRAND'ANSE MAHÉ

The wild west-coast surf beach.

EAST AND CENTRAL MAHÉ
ANSE ETOILE

The north of the island above the capital.

CASCADE

Near the airport, known for its hillside church.

POINTE LARUE

The district of Seychelles International Airport.

ANSE AUX PINS

The east coast, with the craft village at Domaine de Val des Prés and the golf course.

AU CAP

The southeast, quiet coast and coral reef.

SOUTH MAHÉ
ANSE ROYALE

The south, near the old spice garden of Jardin du Roi.

TAKAMAKA

The deep south, wild beaches and the Takamaka rum distillery.

BAIE LAZARE

The southwest, named for the explorer Lazare Picault who charted the islands.

ANSE BOILEAU

The west-central district, birthplace of much Seselwa music.

PRASLIN, LA DIGUE AND BEYOND
BAIE SAINTE ANNE

Praslin's eastern district, the gateway to La Digue.

GRAND'ANSE PRASLIN

Praslin's west, holding the Vallée de Mai and its coco de mer forest, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

LA DIGUE AND INNER ISLANDS

The island of the ox-carts, L'Union Estate and Anse Source d'Argent, with the smaller inner islands.

OUTER ISLANDS

The far coralline islands, including the Aldabra atoll, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

On district administration. Each district is run by a District Administration under the Ministry of Local Government and Inner Islands Affairs, and most have their own community office and social pages. Seychelles districts do not carry individual official coats of arms, the islands share one national arms, shown on the government page. For a specific district office, start at gov.sc.
