During a ceremony held this morning at State House, the President of the Republic of Seychelles, Dr Patrick Herminie, received the Letters of Credence from the Ambassador-Designate of the Slovak Republic to the Republic of Seychelles, His Excellency Mr Maros Mitrik.
President Herminie welcomed and congratulated Ambassador Mitrik on his appointment, noting that diplomatic relations between Seychelles and Slovakia were established in 1993. He reaffirmed the longstanding friendship between the two countries and expressed his commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation.
The President highlighted the growing collaboration in the healthcare sector, particularly through the training of Seychellois healthcare professionals in Slovakia. He noted that 24 Seychellois students are currently pursuing studies in medicine and dentistry in Slovakia, while 23 Seychellois have already graduated from Slovak universities.
The discussions also focused on the proposed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the field of healthcare. President Herminie suggested that Slovakia consider offering full or partial scholarships to Seychellois students pursuing higher education. The two sides further discussed the possibility of signing legal instruments on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters, as well as a Memorandum of Understanding on Migration and Visa Issues (MVI).
His Excellency Mr Mitrik thanked President Herminie for the warm welcome and conveyed the greetings of the President of the Slovak Republic, His Excellency Mr Peter Pellegrini. He reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing cooperation between Seychelles and Slovakia, with particular emphasis on expanding educational opportunities. Ambassador Mitrík highlighted the importance of increasing the availability of English-language programmes for international students and expressed his intention to support initiatives that would make such opportunities more accessible soon.
Both dignitaries welcomed the opportunity to further strengthen the excellent partnership between Seychelles and Slovakia and expressed their readiness to work closely together in addressing shared challenges and advancing areas of mutual interest,
His Excellency Mr Maros Mitrik will be based in Nairobi, Kenya.
Also in attendance were the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Mr Barry Faure, and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora.
